Crane rope

Increasingly large building projects and technical constructions present cranes with ever greater challenges. Fibre rope solutions, with their unsurpassed strength and light weight, not only allow for better handling during installation, but also maximize the lifting capacity and lighten the construction of the cranes themselves. Longer service lives can also be achieved through increased resistance to frequently alternating bends under load.

Crane ropes are exposed to extreme forces, even when rolled up

Depending on the system and requirements, usually different types of wire ropes are used. As buildings and other structures - such as wind turbines - are getting taller and heavier, the technical requirements for cranes in terms of working heights and load capacities are also increasing. Due to the high dead weight of wire ropes, cranes are increasingly reaching their technical limits here. The solution are textile ropes which, due to their low weight, enable a higher load-bearing capacity or a lighter construction of the cranes.
In certain load scenarios and constructions, textile ropes also achieve a longer service life, as they have a better resistance to cyclic bending over sheaves than wire ropes. Another advantage is the uncomplicated installation and maintenance of textile ropes. However, there are no patent solutions in which a single type of fiber rope can replace all wire ropes in all cranes. Gleistein develops special solutions for different types of cranes using various highly modular fiber raw materials, in combination with sophisticated rope constructions.

With the support of our sister company PFEIFER and their in-depth knowledge about ropes in cranes, we develop and test a wide range of running fiber ropes in laboratory tests and in real and trial operation at various development partners.
