Digital support for perfect connections: The Gleistein Tracking System

...offers full transparency and a precise overview of the condition of all mooring ropes.

Gleistein has been manufacturing ropes for commercial shipping for almost 200 years. Today, the company's ready-to-use mooring solutions are among the best in the entire industry, combining easy handling and a long service life with the highest levels of safety. To preserve these benefits long after installation, a good overview of the condition of all ropes and, above all, reliable inspection routines are essential – the new Gleistein Tracking System is designed to ensure just that: seamless monitoring of safety status, profound assessment of wear condition, and standardised inspection routines throughout the entire life cycle of every component of the mooring system.

Especially with a changing crew or larger fleets, the wear condition and safety status of the ropes are often unclear, inspection routines are not sufficiently standardised, and the knowledge of the crew members varies. Analysing data on the condition of mooring systems is therefore usually complicated and access to rope certificates often inconvenient. To relieve its customers of these worries, the company has developed the Gleistein Tracking System. It can be used for all ropes and system components in a wide range of applications and will be presented at the SMM in Hamburg from 6th to 9th of September 2022.

Thanks to the cloud-based tracking service, the system ensures seamless monitoring of the entire life cycle of each rope on individual ships or the entire fleet. It is customised to every vessel and each customer's individual needs by Gleistein’s experts – providing support from the moment the mooring system is installed[JS1] . The layout of each vessel and all winches is visualised in a graphic showing the safety status of each rope. With just one click on the individual rope, the user can obtain, among other things, an overview of the condition at the last inspection, rope certificates, reference information and photos for a reliable assessment of the current wear condition, and direct contact with Gleistein's support team. The system guides crew members step by step during the execution and documentation of inspections and repairs making replacement cycles transparent and plannable. By the way, no paperwork or expensive equipment is needed for this: an app on the smartphone or a computer with internet connection allow direct access from anywhere in the world.

Improved data quality and integrity as well as standardised exchange and inspection cycles significantly increase application security. In addition, the system enables predictive budget planning and significant cost savings through optimised operational times for the mooring systems of the entire fleet.

Following a successful test phase, the rope specialist now presents the Gleistein Tracking System as its first digital product at the SMM in Hamburg – from 6th to 9th of September 2022 on the Gleistein booth 428 in hall 1. It perfectly complements the selection of superior fibre rope products in line with the motto More than Ropes.
