Shared learning – turning real-world experience into progress
visible in day-to-day reality. When unusual wear, recurring damage or unclear behaviour occurs, we don’t stop at assumptions. Together with the operator, we review what is happening in the overall system – rope behaviour, deck layout, handling routines, inspection findings and operating conditions – and agree on practical measures that help the crew and stabilise performance.
In many cases this is organised through regular alignment meetings, on-site visits by Gleistein technicians, documented service reports and the structured use of photos, videos and inspection records. Tools such as the Gleistein Tracking System (GTS) make it easier to keep track of everything and share information.
Typical outcomes of the Learn process include
- Customer alignment & follow-up: agreed action points, responsibilities and recurring reviews to keep improvements on track.
- Improved guidance and content: turning findings into practical “dos & don’ts”, updated manuals, technical bulletins, visual references and short training videos that crews can actually use.
- Stronger operational support: refining inspection routines, documentation workflows and feedback channels (including GTS) so that experience can be captured consistently.
- Product and system optimisation: improving components and configurations based on real use (e.g., tuning tails to deliver the intended elasticity and sacrificial behaviour instead of shifting failures to the main line).
- Design for easier handling: introducing features that make critical issues quicker to recognise in daily operation (e.g., visual patterns that help detect rope twist early).
- Evidence-based validation & trials: using test pieces, laboratory testing and field evaluation to demonstrate damage mechanisms, verify improvements and qualify updated solutions.
Closing the loop
The Learn phase follows a principle known from high-reliability environments: lasting improvement requires an honest, structured review of what happened, why it happened and what should change. Depending on the case, that change may be a clearer instruction, an updated training format, an improved inspection workflow, a revised recommendation – or a refined construction and new components that go into trial and validation.
This is how operational feedback feeds back into Design and Select: not only through better products, but also through continuously improved guidance, tools and support – developed in close dialogue with the people who work with the ropes every day.
