Over time, damage to mooring system components is inevitable. In certain cases, such as when the protective sleeve or cover is damaged, it is possible for the rope to be effectively repaired. In this regard, it is important to define whether the damage is minor, major, or irreparable.

The damaged section must first be carefully inspected to ensure the load-bearing core is still fully intact and can continue to be deployed safely.

Minor repairs of the rope cover may be remedied by removing the damaged yarns and then whipping over the damaged area.

Major repairs of larger sections are more complex and require a high degree of expertise to be completed satisfactorily. Guidelines for more intricate repairs are outlined in the appendix to this mooring rope manual, including instructions for some common splicing techniques.
